As my husband approached the end of his medical residency, we entered a season of transition. Like many couples in our situation, we faced big decisions about the future—where to live, what opportunities to pursue, and what kind of life we wanted to build together.

He began applying for jobs in different states, and thankfully, interview invitations started pouring in. But there was one particular state that had been on my heart. Even though the hospital there hadn’t listed any openings, my husband applied anyway—on faith. To our surprise, they responded, scheduled an interview, and even offered to fly us out for a visit. They arranged the entire trip, from plane tickets to hotel accommodations. Everything was perfectly planned for the first week of June.

We were so excited. We took time off, packed our bags, and headed to the airport with hopeful hearts. On the way, I said a quiet prayer for safe travels and a smooth journey. At the terminal, while waiting to board, we chatted about the food we wanted to try—burgers, cheese curds, and everything in between. The energy between us was full of anticipation.

Then the delays started. First 30 minutes, then another hour. Eventually, some passengers rebooked their flights, but we waited it out. My husband even considered renting a car to make it to our destination. After nearly eight hours at the airport, the flight was canceled. The reason? No available flight attendants.

We were stunned. I’d never had a flight canceled for that reason before. We contacted the hospital to cancel the hotel and flight arrangements, and they kindly offered to reschedule everything for another time.

The ride home was quiet. We were disappointed and confused. The next day, questions filled my mind: Was this a sign? Were we not meant to go there? Should we take the offer from another hospital instead? I prayed and asked God to show us His will.

A month later, everything was rescheduled. This time, as we prepared to travel again, I called my mom and asked her to pray that everything would go smoothly—and it did. From takeoff to landing, the journey was seamless. And when we arrived in Wisconsin, I saw a rainbow. I smiled and told my husband—it felt like a little reassurance from above.

We picked up our rental car and explored the area. We instantly loved it. The town had lakes, hiking trails, and beautiful bluffs. It offered the charm of a small town with the convenience of big-city amenities. Even better, it was only a short drive to larger cities. It was everything we had hoped for.

And the food? Amazing. For a couple of food lovers like us, that sealed the deal.

At the hotel, the hospital had left us a thoughtful welcome gift, and our room overlooked a peaceful lake. The next day, my husband had his interview—and it went smoothly. They offered him the job, and he accepted.

Looking back, I still don’t know exactly why our first flight was canceled. Maybe it was just one of those things that life throws at you. But what I’ve come to realize is that delays don’t always mean denial—they can be part of the process. It reminded me that timing is not just about clocks and calendars; it’s about trust. When the right opportunity comes, no obstacle can stand in the way. So, if you’re in a season of waiting or facing unexpected delays, take heart. What’s meant for you will always find its way to you—and sometimes, the wait makes the arrival that much sweeter.

It’s wonderful how everything worked out for you both. It can often feel frustrating when obstacles crop up or life doesn’t go how we’d like it to, but your post shows that what’s meant to be will be.
